The library's annual budget vote and trustee election will take place on Wednesday, April 12. The budget proposal is under review and will be further discussed at the March 13 meeting. The Board's goal is to improve services for the public at minimal impact on the taxpayer.
There are three trustee vacancies to be filled. Incumbent trustees Patty Garnett, Board President, and Linda Hannigan, Board Treasurer, are seeking reelection to five year terms. Cynthis Zalkin, who was re-elected as a write-in candidate last April, has resigned, leaving a cavancy for the four years remaining in her term. Petitions are available at the library during the hours of 9:30 am to 5:00 pm from Anita Whitehead, clerk of the election. Questions regarding the vacancies and duties of a trustee may be directed to Pauline Kehoe, Library Director, 294-6606, ext. 7. Petitions must be filed by March 13.
The library is pleased to announce that adult program coordinator Janet Hamill has obtained two programming grants to supplement the adult programming budget. The first grant of $1,050 was awarded by the American Library Association "Live at the Library" initiative, to support the library's April Poetry Fest, which includes invitational readings by published area poets. The library's annual celebration of poetry was awarded Ramapo Catskill Library System's first "Member Library Program of the Year Award" last October.
The second grant of $1,950, awarded by Orange County's arts decentralization program, will support the summer lawn concert series. This year's series, scheduled in July, will feature local singers and song writers.
