Across the Director's Desk

October 27, 1999

At its annual meeting on October 24, 1999, the Ramapo Catskill Library System introduced two awards for member libraries: Trustee of the Year and Member Library Program of the Year. The Goshen Public Library and Historical Society is the proud recipient of the Member Library Program of the Year award for its Poetry Fest. Program coordinator Janet Hamill, and Trustee Linda Hannigan were in attendance to receive the award which consists of a plaque and a certificate from the New York State Assembly presented by Assemblywoman Nancy Calhoun. We are proud of our program efforts, and it is nice to have our confidence in the quality of both our staff and our program offerings corroborated by this award. Janet Hamill has done a great job, and the Poetry Fest draws poets and poetry lovers from an around the region.

Two other testimonies to the quality of Goshen Public Library staff are the appointment of Head of Youth Services, Kathy LaRocca to the membership committee of the American Library Association's Association for Library Service to Children. Kathy was recommended for this position as a result of her good work on the Board of the New York Library Association's (NYLA) Youth Services Section, for whom she planned and implemented their annual conference this past spring. Library Director, Pauline Kehoe has recently been elected Vice President/President Elect of the NYLA Public Library Section.
