Across the Director's Desk

Our annual report recently appeared in our quarterly newsletter Reference Point, so it seems a good time to remind the community of some of the things the library offers you. If you did not receive a copy of the newsletter, which is sent to all residents of the Goshen Central School District via bulk mail, contact Janet Hamill (294-6606, x6).

Free introductory Internet classes are available at least one Saturday morning per month. Contact the reference desk (294-6606, x4) for the schedule and to sign up.

Our home delivery service is providing materials to 36 homebound residents with the help of 6 volunteers. If you or someone you know has a temporary or permanent disability or illness, contact the reference desk to arrange for library materials to be delivered to your (their) home.

An ESL class is now being offered by a volunteer to the mothers of our summer Spanish language story hour participants. We have committed to more programming for Spanish speaking residents, as well as to developing a collection of Spanish language books, magazines and videos. If you or someone you know are interested in future programming or want to suggest materials to purchase, contact Pauline Kehoe (294-6606, x7).

If you have read all of the books available by your favorite author, we have a series of bookmark sized guides which direct you to similar authors. These guides are titled "If you like..." and are located on a wall rack outside the business office near the teen area.

For the past year you have been able to request books from any of the 48 libraries in the Ramapo Catskill Library System, either from one of the library's computers or from your computer at home using the library's web site (http://purl.oclc.org/gplhs). You may now also renew your library materials yourself in the same manner. There are certain restrictions on renewals, so pick up instructions at the circulation desk on your next visit.

Too busy commuting to read? Take advantage of our extensive collection of unabridged audio books. These may be reserved, the same as printed books, so check the catalog for authors and titles you would like. This is our highest demand collection and much of it is in circulation all of the time.

The Reference Point included a Back to School coupon good for one free video rental or one overdue fine (one coupon per card holder). Don't forget to take advantage of this offer before it expires on January 1!
